Abstract
PURPOSE:To lessen the breaking of wire by coating a desired portion of a filament wih a material decomposable by heating to oxide and also gradually reducible by a reductive impurity. CONSTITUTION:A negative electrode consisting of the base metal 24 and the electron-radiating substance layer 25 is placed on the center of the filament 27. The portion to be coated near the center of the filament 27 is coated with a material decomposable by heating to an oxide and also gradually reducible by reductive impurities. Thus, because the evaporation of the filament by heating is suppressed, the thinning of grain boundary can be avoided and the breaking of the filament 27 can therefore be lessened.
