Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce an electron beam focused uniformly against a linear hot cathode, by comprising the electron source with a linear hot cathode, a grid electrode having through holes in longitudinal direction and a back electrodes facing each other while holding the linear cathode between them. CONSTITUTION:Rear electrodes 2a, 2b are provided on the surface of an insulated substrate 1 through screen printing, vacuum deposition, etc. where the rear electrodes 2a are arranged in dot or stripe coaxially with the through holes 4a of a grid electrode 4 while the rear electrodes 2b are arranged around said electrodes 2a while insulated from them. The linear hot cathode 3 is made of a tungsten wire coated with a thermion emitting material through electrodeposition, while through holes 4a are arranged in a grid electrode 4 for taking the electron beam in longitudinal direction of the grid electrode 4 to be placed at the center. Consequently the electron beam focused uniformly against one linear hot cathode can be produced.
