PURPOSE: To permit heading tonnage to be accurately measured by providing distorsion sensors for the spacer rods interlocked with punches.
CONSTITUTION: Distorsion sensors 18aW18e are attached to annular hollows 17 of spacer rods 13 interlocked with punches 5aW5e of a multistage parts former comprising a main body 1 having a material feed port 2 and dies 3aW3e varying from rough to finish machinings, and a ram 4 advancing to and retreating from the body 1. The sensors 18aW18e detect distortion forces applied to the spacer rods 13 through spacer rods 12 when the punches 5aW5e punch materials in the dies 3aW3e, in order to measured heading tonnage in each heading step. Adjusting, e.g., the positions on the dies 3aW3e, fine adjustment means 15 and 16 for the punch thrust amount, or the like permits an optimum heading tonnage to be obtained.
