Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable obtaining a good result in yield and a favourable dimensional accuracy in forging large size cylindrical rings by means of forging through a cylindrical anvil having an inside diameter approximately the same dimension of an external diameter of a finished rough forging material which rotates together with a rough forging material on a mandrel.
CONSTITUTION: A cylindrical rough forging material 3 is suspended on a mandrel 2 supported by a pair of mandrel supporters 1, and a cylindrical anvil 4 having its inside diameter approximately the same dimension of an external diameter of the finished rough forging material, is suspended upon the forging material 3. After a mandrel 2, forging material 3, and anvil 4 are assembled in such a manner, the rough forging material 3 being allowed to rotate on the mandrel 2, the anvil 4 is also rotates together with this rotation. Under this condition, forging is performed successively on the rough forging material 3 through the anvil 4 by a press 5. Thus, the rough forging material 3 is subject to hole-enlarging forging, ultimately reaching an inscribed circle as shown in the two dots chain line 7. The forging is terminated at the time when the outer circle of forging material 3 becomes constricted by the anvil 4.
