Abstract

PURPOSE: To control the gap at the butting part after the O-formation so as to be suitable for next welding work, by employing the U-punch being provided with a special shape and the variable height and breadth, at forming the thick walled UO steel pipe, and by adjusting the ratio between height and breadth of U-punch, correspondingly to the thickness, strength, diameter, etc., of the material to be formed.
CONSTITUTION: The thick wall UO steel pipe forming machine consists of the side punch 1, bottom punch 5, block 3, spacer 4, punch spacer 6, etc. The shape of the punch is specified to satisfy the formula (where, B is a half of the punch breadth, D is the outer diameter of the pipe, t is thickness of the material, all in mm unit); besides, the punch height H and/or punch breadth 2B are made variable. When the gap of the butting part after O-formation carried out corespondingly to thickness, diameter of the material, is smaller than the aim gap, H/2B is lessened, and when the gap is larger than the aim gap, H/2B is enlarged by setting the variable punch height and punch breadth, so as to make the gap equal to the gap; and then, O- formation is carried out following to U-formation.
