Abstract

1399381 Compression tabletting machine M H RUBINSTEIN 17 Aug 1973 [23 Aug 1972] 39278/72 Heading B5A [Also in Division G3] A compression tabletting machine is controlled by weighing successively at least some of the tablets produced thereby and providing an electric signal depending on the weight measured, comparing the signal with a standard value, producing a comparison signal dependent upon the deviation therebetween, and utilizing the comparison signal at least to limit the deviation when a predetermined deviation is exceeded. As shown in Fig. 1, compressed tablets are fed from the tabletting machine to linear feeder 1 and transferred from the end 2 thereof by a vacuum pick-up 3 to weighing pan 4 of a weighing assembly which also comprises lever 5 supported at 6 and rigidly connected at 7 to the core 10 of a displacement transducer 9, the lever 5 in its zero position being held at 13 against stop 11 by tension spring 14. After weighing, the tablet is blown by air from nozzle 16 into shoot 17. The tablets may be weighed individually or in batches. By using the output signal, the machine may be adjusted while working or when stopped. The adjustment may increase or decrease the rate of feed to the machine, the compressive force applied or the volume of material drawn into the die. The output signal may also be represented visually, e.g. on a moving roll of paper, on an oscilloscope, or on a digital print-out.
