Abstract

PURPOSE: To freely control the cooling rate of an object to be treated and shorten the period of HIP treatment cycle by performing cooling of said object in the outside of the HIP furnace after hot hydrostatic pressing (HIP) treatment.
CONSTITUTION: When predetermined HIP treatment is finished by holding the object for a fixed time in a high-temp. high-pressure gaseous atmosphere, the pressure medium gas in a high-pressure chamber 10 is recovered through a nozzle 12 or gas supply port 7, so that the pressure in the chamber 10 is lowered down to around the atmospheric pressure. Next, a lower plug 3b is lowered and the assembly to be treated including a heat-resistant cylinder 10, a pedestal 6 and an object 2 to be treated is removed from the HIP furnace. Thence, a cooling gas is continuously supplied into a heat-resistant cylinder 5 through the gas supply port 7 communicating with the pedestal 6 and is exhausted through the opening 8 of the cylinder 5, whereby the object 2 is cooled. If in this case the rate of supply of the cooling gas is changed, the cooling rate of the object 1 is controlled freely.
