Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the surface oxidation and cooling and to shorten the treatment cycle time by a method wherein an object to be treated is preheated, subjected to a hot pressing with hydrostatic pressure, and is cooled, all in a heat-resistance cylinder under a protective gas atmosphere.
CONSTITUTION: An object to be treated 2 is contained in a heat-resistant cylinder 3 having at its lower portion a gas-flow hole 7 connecting the inside and outside of the cylinder. A support seat 4 is placed on a plug 9, through both of which a gas- feed hole 8 is installed to open into the cylinder 3. Through the hole 8, a protective gas replaces the air in the cylinder 3. The assembly enclosed with the cylinder 3 is charged and preheated in a preheat furnace 1 having lined heat-insulating material 5 and heaters 6. The preheated assembly is taken out and charged in a hydrostatic hot press 20, where it is subjected to a high-temperature, high-pressure press treatment. At completion of the treatment, the high temperature assembly enclosed with the cylinder 3 is taken out, and the object is cooled with a cooling protective gas supplied from the hole 8 of the seat 4 into the cylinder 3.
