Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the thermal efficiency in an annealing furnace by preheating coils with the high temp. waste gas from the furnace and loading such coils into the furnace in annealing the coils of cold rolled strips in the annealing furnace. CONSTITUTION:In annealing coils S of cold rolled strips in a continuous type coil annealing furnace having an annular rotary hearth, the coils S are placed on the rotary hearth, and are passed through a preheating zone A-A', a heating and soaking zone A'-B, and a cooling zone B-C, whereby they are preheated, soaked and cooled. After the annealing is finished by this, the coils are removed through a coil loading and extracting port C-A. At this time, the high temp. waste gas produced from the heating and soaking zone via the preheating zone is heat exchanged with air for combustion in a recuperator R1, after which it is introduced together with the high temp. waste gas from the cooling zone to a slow heating chamber 1 for the coils S, where it heats the coils S of the strips loaded therein to the extent of not hampering the handling of the coils, after which it is introduced into the continous annealing furnace, whereby the thermal efficiency of the annealing furnace is improved.
