Abstract

PURPOSE:To adjust a printing position in a short time by means of a simple, inexpensive structure, by a method wherein a deflection position of charged, deflected ink jet particles is detected by means of a detector and a distance between an ink jet nozzle and a recording sheet is regulated through said detection signal. CONSTITUTION:A deflection position detector 10, which detects charged, deflected ink jet particles, or detects so called displacement in a printing position of ink drops, is mounted in proximity of a recording sheet 5. For example, a maximum deflection position, out of multistage deflection, which can be detected most precisely, is detected by detecting which of detecting electrodes (a), (b), and (c) is struck with ink drops. When they fall on the electrode (c), a deflection amount is decided to be too large, and a distance to the ink ket nozzle 1 of the detector 10 is shortened. The nozzle is caused to stop at a position where the ink drops strike the electrode (b), and a printing position of the ink drops is regulated to a normal position. EFFECT:Complicated operational and control circuits are not required.
