PURPOSE:To prevent the developer between a developer sleeve and a developer supply sleeve from flocculating after the end of a developing process by adjusting the height of the magnetic brush of the magnetic one-component type developer by controlling the position of a doctor blade. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic one-component type developer magnetic brush of a prescribed height formed on a developer supplying sleeve 8 is collided strongly against a developer sleeve 10 by the magnetic field formed by the magnetic pole 11 of the sleeve 10 and the magnetic pole 9 of the sleeve 8, whereby it is frictionally charged. The developer attracted by the sleeve 10 forms a thin layer of the developer on the sleeve 10, by which the latent image of a photosensitive drum 1 is well developed. Upon ending of this developing process, a cam 14 turns and the position of a doctor blade 12 changes, by which the height of the developer magnetic brush formed on the sleeve 8 is adjusted to low and the developer between the sleeve 8 and the sleeve 10 is prevented from flocculation, thus the degradation in the quality of the copied image is obviated.
