Abstract

PURPOSE: To render inoperative cylinders inoperative or operative selectively by an independent throttle valve provided especially for the inoperative cylinders, by employing such an arrangment that a throttle valve is provided in each of the intake passages provided independently for the group of inoperative cylinders and that of operative cylinders.
CONSTITUTION: A throttle valve 7B provided in the intake passage for operative cylinder group is opened and closed in association with the movement of an accelerator pedal, but a throttle valve 7A for the inoperative cylinder group is operated by a vacuum operated actuator 20. A vacuum feeding passage 27 for feeding vacuum to a vacuum chamber 23 of the actuator 20 is branched at a portion thereof into two passages. One of the branch passages is released to the atmosphere via the first solenoid valve 28, while the other is branched further into two passages at a downstream portion of a second solenoid valve 29. One of the branch passages is opened in a venturi portion 13B for the operative cylinders on the downstream side of an orifice 30, while the other is opened in an intake manifold 4B for the operative cylinder on the downstream side of an orifice 31 and the third solenoid valve 32.
