Abstract
PURPOSE: To control the number of operative cylinders according to the operational condition of a multi-cylinder engine, by providing an intake-air flow controlling throttle valve and a fuel feeding means for feeding fuel at a rate corresponding to the rate of intake-air flow respectively in each of the intake passage formed independently for two cylinder groups.
CONSTITUTION: Intake passages 4A, 4B are provided independently for three front cylinders #1W#3 and three rear cylinders #4W#6. In these intake passages 4A, 4B, there are respectively provided intake-air flow controlling throttle valves 7A, 7B are fuel feeding injection valves 8A, 8B for feeding fuel at a rate corresponding to the rate of intake-air flow. At the time of idling operation or low-load operation of the engine, the throttle valve 7B for the rear cylinder #4W #6, connected to the accelerator pedal, is kept at an idling opening angle for keeping the rate of intake-air flow lower than a predetermined level, so that the throttle valve 7A for the front cylinders #1W#3 is kept at a fully closed position by a computor 50 in response to an output signal of an air-flow meter 9B. This results in stoppage of supply of intake air and interruption of the operation of the injection valve 8A, so that only the rear cylinders #4W#6 are kept in operation while rendering the front cylinders #1W#3 inoperative.
