Abstract

PURPOSE: To form a theoretical air-fuel ratio and thus to improve a cleaning efficiency with ternary catalyst by supplying the air controlled by an exhaust gas sensor to an inlet passage near each intake valve of a multicylinder engine.
CONSTITUTION: Inlet passages 5aW5d through to two carburetors 13, 14 are kept open to each cylinder 2aW2d. A secondary air feed passage 32 having a flow control valve 36 and a solenoid operated valve 35 extends through to an air cleaner 33, and the feed passage 32 is also kept through to a common passage 29. The common passage 29 is further kept through to branch passages 30aW30d open to each inlet passage 5aW5d near intake valves 3aW3d. The solenoid operated valve 35 is adjusted for the opening by a controlling device 50 to which signals of an exhaust sensor 49 arranged on an exhaust pipe 47 in front of a ternary catalyst 48 are inputted. A mixed gas to be fed to each cylinder is thus adjusted to a theoretical air-fuel ratio at all times.
