Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a photovoltaic element which can be mass-produced by a method wherein an organic compound thin film of lead phthalocyanine or perylene pigment or both is sandwiched by conductors, and as one of the conductors one which transmits the electromagnetic wave sensed by said organic compound is selected. CONSTITUTION:A semitransparent conductive glass 4 is coated with, e.g., In2O3 3 which has a transmissivity of 80% at 500nm by evaporation, perylene pigment having a methyl group and a thickness of 0.3mum and lead phthalocyanine having a thickness of 1mum are piled 2 thereon by evaporation and moreover, an semitransparent electrode 1 of In2O3 is deposited thereon by evaporation to complete an element. By said constitution, it is possible to obtain an element having a large photovoltage and a wide photosensitivity extending over from the visible region to the near infrared region, and the element can be produced in the same chamber by successive evaporation. In addition, evaporation permits an element of wider area to be obtained.
