Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a toner superior in charging characteristics and fluidity, and good in printing resistance, by dispersing toner particles and colloidal silica into a solvent containing water, and treating them with a silane modifying agent. CONSTITUTION:Colloidal silica (0.5pt.wt.) is added to 100pts.wt. toner consisting of a magnetic powder, a binder resin, a colorant such as carbon black, etc., and stirred in a mixture of dehydrated methanol and water in 1:3 ratio controlled to about 4pH using an acetic acid solution. A silane modifying agent suitable for the binder resin of the toner is selected and 0.5pt.wt. of it is added to the toner being stirred in the solvent, thus permitting formation of a durable toner superior in charging characteristics and fluidity, and having the colloidal silica stably bonded to the surfaces of the toner particles through the medium of the silane modifying agent.
