Abstract

PURPOSE:To form cavities in the heat radiating surface of a heat radiating body and improve boiling characteristics by applying chrome plating on the surface of said body then subjecting the same to electrolytic etching and liquid honing. CONSTITUTION:A heat radiating body 2 made of copper or the like as a base material is immersed in a chrome plating soln., whereby a chrome plating film having numerous fine cracks 4 in the heat radiating surface is formed. Thence, the circumferences of the cracks 4 and small pores are enlarged by electrolytic etching into a porous state 5, and further the connecting fine cracks 4 are shaped off by liquid honing treatment, whereby the points of intersection of the cracks 4 with the other cracks 4 are left as cavities 6. The cavities 6 is easily formed in the heat radiating surface of the heat radiating body 2 by this treatment, and the heat radiating body of improved boiling characteristics and high heat conductivity is obtained.
