Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a foam molding with a tough skin by filling thermoplastic resin prefoamed particles in a mold, heating and inflating them, then gradually cooling, opening the mold and again tightening the mold and finally taking out a molding.
CONSTITUTION: Prefoamed particles of thermoplastic resin are filled into a cavity of a mold, heated, inflated and melt. After these steps, the cavity is gradually cooled with the use of hot water at approximately 55°W80°C so that its surfacial temperature does not drop below 60°C. Then the hot water is drained and the mold is slightly opened to inflate the molding with internal residual foaming pressure. Again the mold is tightened to force the residual volatile component out of a molding. At the same time, a clearance in the surfacial beads is further narrowed and a tough skin having a minute parallel orientation is caused to be formed on a molding which is, in turn, taken out. In this way, a highly flexible molding with a glossy skin can be obtained.
