Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform foam-shaping without effecting drying, curing, etc., by vacuum-cooling a foam-shaped piece of thermoplastic resin grains.
CONSTITUTION: Preparatorily-foamed thermoplastic resin grains are filled in the cavity of a mold. The resin grains are heated and expanded by a heating medium such as vapor so that grains are foam-shaped. the shaped piece is thereafter cooled by only vacuum cooling or both vacuum cooling and slight water cooling. In the case of only the vacuum cooling, drying, curing, etc. after the shaping the not needed since water is not used as in conventional water cooling. Therefore, the shaping cycle is shortened. In the case of the combination of the vacuum cooling and slight water cooling, drying etc. are easy since the used quantity of water is small.
