Abstract
PURPOSE:To efficiently produce a shock-proof formed foam covered on its surface with a resin sheet by fitting a thermoplastic resin sheet over the molding surface of a mold and forming the sheet with steam passing holes with use of perforating pins inserted in steam holes. CONSTITUTION:A heated thermoplastic resin sheet 4 is fitted over the molding surface of a metal mold 1 and vacuum-formed. When an advance/retreat panel 19 fitted with perforating pins 18 is advanced toward the mold 1, pins 18 pass through steam holes 17 and break through the sheet 4, and the tip ends of the pins 18 project to the exterior on the side of the molding surfac. Then the pins 18 are returned to their original retracted position. By this, the sheet 4 is formed with holes 41 in register with the steam holes 17. With metal molds 1 and 2 fastened together, foamable pllystyrene beads 5 are filled into a cavity 3, and steam is introduced into a vacant chamber 11 of the mold 1. The heat of steam causes the beads 5 to foam, and the sheet 4 adheres integrally to the surface of the formed body. After cooling by cooling water, the molds are separated, to obtain an objective formed body of which the shock resistance has been enhanced by coverage of its surface with the sheet 4.
