Abstract

1447110 Forming skins on foamed articles H EISENBERG 21 Dec 1973 59524/73 Heading B5A A method making a foamed plastics article 48 having a vacuum formed thermoplastic skin bonded thereto, e.g. a basin, comprises applying an adhesive in a predetermined pattern (25), Fig. 2 not shown, on one side of the skin by means of an applicator 23, preheating the sheet by a heater 26 and positioning the pattern centrally between a pair of moulds 13, 14 which form a cavity when closed, moving the moulds towards one another, vacuum forming the sheet into engagement with the mould 13, Fig. 3 not shown, so that the adhesive is presented towards the cavity, filling the cavity with foamable plastics material, e.g. polystyrene beads, via a nozzle 43, cooling the moulds, and separating the article therefrom. A flange on the mould 13 includes a cutter 35. The skin can be heated in the mould cavity. The skin can be supplied to the mould in separate blanks.
