971,159. Moulding containers; laminates and laminating. ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS Inc Nov. 17, 1960 [Dec. 10, 1959], No. 39549/60. Headings B5A and B5N. A container is moulded from a sheet of e.g. polystyrene having integral projections, which may be covered with a further sheet, in a moulding machine which does not destroy the projections. The moulding machine may be of the kind described in Specification 934,437. As shown in Fig. 17, the material 18 is held by clamps 106, 108, and the moulds moved to draw the material. Air pressure is then applied to the plug side to move the material away from the plug 118, at the same time the air trapped in the mould provides a resilient cushion to prevent flattening out of the projections. The sheet may be made by extruding a sheet 12, moulding it between rollers 14, 16 to the form shown in Fig. 1, whilst a second extruded sheet 30 is heated at 28 and both sheets fed to laminating rollers 20, 22. A modified form of material having longitudinal webs 86 only is shown in Fig. 12, whilst Fig. 13 shows a material having projections 98. Specification 971,160 also is referred to.
