Abstract
PURPOSE:To decrease the waveguide loss of a waveguide type gas laser and improve its heat conductivity by providing it with a hollow waveguide passage of multilayer construction whose outer layer is formed of a material having a high heat conductivity and whose inner surface is coated with a material having a small waveguide loss. CONSTITUTION:The outer layer 3 is made of a material which satisfies conditions specially such as heat conductivity, strength or the like, and the inner surface thereof is thinly coated with a material which has excellent waveguide characteristics to form an inner surface coating layer 2. By such a multilayer construction, the waveguide characterisitcs of the waveguide passage are determined by the layer 2, and the shortcomings in heat transfer characteristics, strength or the like resulting from the material of the layer 2 can be compensated by the layer 3. Thereby, it is possible to obtain a gas laser equipped with a hollow waveguide passage which is excellent in waveguide characteristics, heat transfer characteristics as well as strength.
