Abstract
PURPOSE: To glass base is coated with colloidal alumina or silica on the surface and rapidly cooled to produce reinforced glass with improved paintability through high efficient processes.
CONSTITUTION: The glass base is coated with colloidal alumina or silica by the roll or spray coating method on the surface. The coating may be effected only on the surface to be painted or on both surfaces including the other surface not to be painted. The glass coated is baked to form a high adsorption layer of active alumina or silica with many viods included therein. The resultant reinforced glass is painted by using inks containing thermally migrating dyes and heating the surface painted at a temperature at which the dyes migrate. The dyes are adsorbed into fine voids of the active layer by heating to form a pattern with high wearing resistance.
