Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the suitability of the surface of a heat resistant substrate to painting and enable the surface to be decorated with a multicolored pattern by applying alumina sol or silica sol-base frit mixed with an inorg. pigment to the substrate followed by calcination.
CONSTITUTION: Frit based on alumina sol and/or silica sol which adsorb dye or pigment on being calcined is mixed with an inorg. pigment, applied to a heat resistant substrate, and calcined. The substrate used includes glass, enamel, tile, pottery, stainless steel and forged steel. The frit is applied by spraying, flow coating, dipping or other method. In order to retain the surface smoothness after applying the frit, water in the frit is desirably evaporated by drying. A binder may be mixed into the frit to make the frit applied layer thicker.
