Abstract

1404455 Enamels and enamelling HARRISON MAYER Ltd 29 Aug 1972 [2 Sept 1971] 40925/71 Heading C1M [Also in Division C3] Ceramic workpieces are decorated in a single firing process by applying to the unfired clay workpiece a design in an ink comprising a heat-stable inorganic pigment, a glass flux which binds the pigment to the surface after firing, and a silicone liquid, resin or grease or a silicone-modified polyester or epoxy resin which serves as the ink medium and as a glaze repellant and decomposes during firing, applying thereafter an aqueous glaze suspension to coat the workpiece except the area bearing the glazerepellant ink, then firing the workpiece. The ink may contain colloidal SiO 2 , Al 2 O 3 , a silicate or an aluminate. The workpiece may be dried at 100-105‹ C. before glazing. No specific example is given.
