1,196,869. Glazing ceramics. F. SOLMI. 11 Sept., 1968, No. 43095/68. Heading C1M. Glazed cermic bodies (e.g. bricks, tiles) are produced by applying to the surface of a raw ceramic body a vitreous glaze, including in total 25-35 wt. per cent of a clay and/or kaolin, which clay and/or kaolin fuses at at least 1500‹ C. and has a maximum particle diameter of 1 Á or less, drying the glaze and firing the glazed body. Preferably the glaze contains 25% of the above clay and/or kaolin and a further 10% of a clay and/or kaolin whose maximum particle diameter is above 1Á but less than 8 Á. Preferably the glaze is applied in aqueous suspension, and the firing is 900-1300‹ C. The glaze may be dried using I.R. lamps. A second layer of conventional glaze may be applied over the clay-containing glaze.
