Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A thymidine derivative of squalene expressed by formula IVa (R is COCH2Oϕ) or formula IVb (R is H).
EXAMPLE: Squalene ester of thymidine-phenoxyacetate.
USE: A carcinostatic agent having improved carcinostatic effect and preventing effect on metastasis of cancer with low toxicity, and administrable continuously.
PROCESS: A thymidinephenoxyacetate trityl ether of formula I is treated with a weak acid to give a thymidinephenoxyacetate of formula II. The compound of formula II or III is esterified by a diethyl azodicarboxylate and triphenylphosphine to afford the compound of formula IVa. The weak hydrolysis of the compound provides an ester of squalene-ω-carboxylic acid expressed by formula IVb in which the phenoxyacetate is removed.
