The surface temp. of the material at the interference position is measured with optical pyrometer 37, and the flame positions are set not to form a low temp. region. By this method the synthesized clad to core diameter ratio is made larger, the growth of porous base materials is stabilized, and a single mode optical fiber with less loss is obtd.
