Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the abnormal rise in exhaust pressure at power running to attain good output characteristics, by connecting an exhaust pipe with an accesory exhaust pipe which bypasses a catalyst pipe and by providing the accessory exhaust pipe with a valve which is opened only at the power running.
CONSTITUTION: An accessory exhaust pipe 21, which bypasses a catalyst pipe 11, is connected to an exhaust pipe 20. The accessory exhaust pipe 21 is provided with a valve 22 which is coupled to an actuator 23 through a rod 27 and which is opened only at power running. When the discharge pressure of a compressor (not shown) rotated by exhaust gas rises because of the power running, a coiled spring 26 in the actuator 23 is compressed to move up the rod 27 to open the valve 22 so that a part of the exhaust gas flows through the accessory exhaust pipe 21 and is discharged together with purified air conducted through the catalyst pipe 11. According to this constitution, the pressure in the exhast pipe 20 etc. is prevented from rising. This results in keeping the output of an internal combustion engine from falling.
