Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a high muffling effect in the total revolution range of an engine, providing a chamber near a muffler and installing a valve between the chamber and the muffler so that the valve is opened or closed in connection with the condition of the engine. CONSTITUTION:The chamber 6 is provided near the front of the expansion chamber 5 of the muffler 4 attached to the engine 1 through an exhaust pipe 3. The chamber 6 is coupled to the muffler 4 through a passage 7. The muffler 4 has an expanded part 8 near the chamber 6. The cylindrical valve 11 which has a hole 9 in the bottom 10 is movably fitted in the expanded part 8. A tension spring 12 is engaged between the left end of the expanded part 8 and the bottom 10 of the valve 11. When the rotational frequency of the engine 1 increases, the tension spring 12 is elongated by a force based on the flow of exhaust gas and the passage 7 is gradually closed by the valve 11. Therefore, the high muffling effect is obtained in the total revolution range of the engine 1.
