Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the output by a method wherein a rotary valve, which serves to make or break the communication between an expansion chamber and an exhaust passage in response to the rotational frequency of an engine, is provided in the valve chamber with the expansion chamber formed in the exhaust passage.
CONSTITUTION: The rotary valve 7 with an opening 9, which serves to make or break the communication between the expansion chamber 8 and the exhaust passage 3 by pivotting due to the output of a transducer 12 which moves in response to the rotational frequency of the engine, is provided in the valve chamber 5 with the expansion chamber 8 formed in the exhaust passage 3. The center of the opening 9 of the rotary valve 7 is controlled to be located at the position (a) in the low rotational frequency region and located at the position (b) in the high rotational frequency region. As a result, the volume of exhaust system is increased at low rotational frequency and decreased at high rotational frequency, enabling to stably improve the output over the range from the low rotational frequency region to the high rotational frequency region.
