Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the output by a method wherein an expansion chamber is formed by connecting the exhaust pipes of adjacent cylinders and pistons are provided within the expansion chamber to be moved in response to the rotational frequency of an engine in order to change the volume of exhaust pipes.
CONSTITUTION: The expansion chamber is formed within the exhaust pipes 6 and 7 of the adjacent cylinders and the connecting pipe 8 with a circular plate 13 which connects the cylinders. In the expansion chamber, the pistons 9 and 10 are provided to be moved by the output of a transducer 11 responding to the rotational frequency of the engine in order to change the volume of the exhaust pipes 6 and 7. The circular plate 13 is controlled to pivot to bring close the pistons 9 and 10 in the low rotational frequency region of the engine and to keep off the pistons 9 and 10 in the high rotational frequency region of the engine. As a result, the volume of exhaust system is increased at low rotational frequency and decreased at high rotational frequency, enabling to stably improve the output over the range from the low rotational frequency region to the high rotational frequency region.
