Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the turbin efficiency by making dynamic pressure supercharge in the full operating range regardless of the performance of a waste gate by such an arragement that one group of exhaust passages are set longer than the other group and that a by-pass passage is opened in the exhaust passage of the other group.
CONSTITUTION: The exhaust passage 3a of the cylinder 1a in Group 1 is set longer than the exhaust passage 3b of the cylinder 1b in Group 2, and the upper flow open end 5a of the by-pass passage 5 is opend at this exhaust passage 3b. At the low revolving time of engine 1, nonacutation of a diaphragm 8 will choke the by-pass passage 5 to allow the exhaust gas in the exhaust passages 3a, 3b to flow into a turbine 2a, so that the exhaust pulsations of the cylinders 1a, 1b are multiplied and dynamic pressure supercharge is thus performed. At the high revolving time of engine 1, on the other hand, actuation of a waste gate will open the by-pass passage 5, so that the flow of exhaust gas to the turbine 2a will decrease and the amount of supercharge is controlled properly.
