Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the titled fiber having high aspect ratio, economically, by the hydrothermal reaction of an aqueous mixture consisting of a raw material of silica containing solid sodium silicate as at least a part thereof and a raw material of calcium components.
CONSTITUTION: A raw material of silica containing solid sodium sicicate having proper grain size as at least a part thereof is mixed with a water-soluble raw material of Ca, e.g. CaO, Ca(OH)2, etc. and a large amount of water. The aqueous mixture thus obtained is made to react at about 180W about 200°C to obtain calcium silicate fiber having an aspect ratio of ≥ about 50. The process does not necessitate strict control of reaction conditions, complicated operations, expensive additives, etc., and is economical.
