Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain fine-grain chainlike calcium carbonate very simply and economically by mixing a specified amount of sulfuric acid into an aqueous suspension of calcium hydroxide and carrying out carbonation with CO2 gas at a stroke.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous suspension of calcium hydroxide is adjusted to ≤15, usually 7W15% concn. and ≤25°C. Basing on 100pts.wt. calcium hydroxide 0.5W8, preferably 1W5pts. wt. sulfuric acid is diluted with water to about 2W5% concn, and mixed into the suspension, and then CO2 gas is blown at ≥2.0l/min.kg Ca(OH)2 as 100% CO2 to successively carry out carbonation until the pH reaches the acidic range. Thus, fine calcium carbonate having 0.02W0.03μm minor axis size is obtd. in the form of a chain having about 10 aspect ratio at a stroke.
