Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain at a low cost an acid-and alkali-resisting composite pigment with stability and high covering power, which is composed of a silicate mineral and titanium oxide, by the admixture of a pulverized silicate mineral with titanium hydroxide sol, followed by dehydration and calcination.
CONSTITUTION: A pulverized silicate mineral such as talc or kaoline about 0.2mμ in particle size is mixed with a colloidal titanium hydroxide sol, and pH of the resulting mixture is pref. adjusted to about 6 by the addition of an alkali such as aqueous ammonia. Then the purpose composite pigment consisting of 5W50pts.wt. pulverized silicate mineral and 95W50pts.wt. titanium oxide is obtd. by dehydration followed by calcination. The composite pigment obtd. is chemically stable to moisture and carbon dioxide, and exerts high covering power for the small content of titanium oxide.
