Abstract
PURPOSE: To easily provide hard type soda ash by calcining sodium carbonate monohydrate precipitated from aqueous sodium carbonate solution in the presence of sodium sulfite and calcium ions.
CONSTITUTION: Sodium carbonate hydrate is precipitated from aqueous sodium carbonate solution in the presence of sodium sulfite and calcium ions. The precipitated sodium carbonate hydrate is calcined. The above aqueous sodium carbonate solution is preferably obtained by carbonating caustic soda obtained by electrolysis of NaCl solution in such a way that the above caustic soda solution is added with CO2-contg. gas, SO2-contg. gas, and an ion-dissociable calcium cpd. In this method, preferable condition is that precipitation temperature of sodium carbonate hydrate is 50W110°C, the concentration of sodium sulfite is 0.2W5.5wt% of saturated aqueous solution of sodium carbonate, calcium ion concentration is 5W30ppm on the basis of converted CaO.
