Abstract

PURPOSE:To most suitably set the ignition time according to conditions of the engine operation by a method wherein an ignition time convertible device is provided in which the highest combustion pressure is obtained at a prescribed time based on an output signal from a pressure peak time detecting device. CONSTITUTION:The pressure peak time detecting device 10 detects the highest combustion pressure based on the output of an internal pressure senser 9 of the combustion chamber, and a primary current breaking time of an ignition coil 4 is changed so as to remove a shear between the detection time and a desired value, through the ignition time convertible device 11. During the operation of the engine, the ignition time is always feedback-controlled in order that the highest combustion pressure at the desired value can be obtained, thereby enabling the engine to most effectively be operated.
