Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve running performance of an engine and maintain its maximum output by eliminating knocks immediately, if they are generated, responding to magnitude of knocking and by increasing ignition timing on a minimum revised unit basis in the vacuum advance direction after knocking elimination. CONSTITUTION:A number of pulses responding to magnitude of knocking detected from a knock sensor 30 enter a CPU through an input/output interface circuit 20. The CPU12 computes revised values responding to the number of output pulses from the knock sensor 30, and revises ignition timing on the revised value, and gradually increases ignition timing on a revised minimum unit basis in the vacuum advance direction after revision, performing revision control, and detects accelerating conditions of the engine during its accelerated operation, and performs revision control again to return ignition timing to the basic ignition timing which must be decided according to the predetermined vacuum advance program.
