Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an optimal ignition timing by a method wherein ignition timing of an engine is quickly controlled at the time of knocking occurrence, a process on how knocking occurred in the past is examined for its release, and an inclination of the release is changed according to the strength of knocking. CONSTITUTION:A terminal 1 on which an engine oscillation signal is applied and another terminal 2 on which an ignition timing signal is applied are connected to a circuit 3 to detect knocking at every ignition of the engine, and the output signal is led to an up-down counter 4. The counter 4 adds 1 to a value counted for output from a detection circuit 3, subtracts 0.5 for output from AND gate 7 and further subtracts 1 for output from AND gate 8. The ignition timing can thus be delayed by one level at the time of knocking occurrence, and where there is knocking arising at ignition of a certain number of times in the past, it is retained as it is when knocking is over.
