Abstract

PURPOSE:To accomplish correct and optimal control on the ignition timing of the internal combustion engine, by detecting an internal pressure of a cylinder intermittently at predetermined crank-angle position, and controlling the ignition timing in response to the difference between the detected pressure and a previously detected pressure. CONSTITUTION:From signals produced by a crank-angle signal generator 8, the internal pressure of a cylinder is detected intermittently by a sensor 1. The internal pressure of the cylinder detected through a n-th measurement is compared with that detected through a (n-1)th measurement in a comparator 3. Here, in case that there is a difference between these two values, a signal is sent to an ignition timing controlling circuit 4 for shifting the ignition timing toward advancing or delaying direction, so that the above difference can be rendered zero. Thus, it is enabled to control the ignition timing automatically to the optimal ignition timing.
