Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a high output and a low fuel consumption ratio by a method wherein the ignition time which is controlled through a centrifugal advancer in response to the generation of a knocking in the engine is delayed to the utmost limit at which no more knocking takes place. CONSTITUTION:The high compression ratio engine 10 has four cylinders 11-14. All of the cylinders are provided with ignition plugs 21-24, respectively. A distributor 1 comprises a rotor shaft 6 having the centrifugal advancer 5, an interrupter 7 for an ignition coil 2 and a distributor 8 for the ignition plugs 21-24. The advancing characteristic of the centrifugal advancer 5 is so determined that the ignition time controlled by the advancer is substantially in coincidence with the optimum ignition time (MBT) in an operation zone in which the MBT is on the side advanced from the ignition time at the limit of knocking in the high compression ratio internal combustion engine. When the knocking is detected by a knocking detector 19, the ignition time is properly delayed in the angle delaying direction.
