Abstract

PURPOSE:To check the occurrence of knocks by a method wherein a specific cylinder is put in a state in which the knocks tend to occur by controlling an air fuel ratio of a mixed gas and the occurrence of the knocks in the specific cylinder is detected, in a high load operation region. CONSTITUTION:A resistor 27 is inserted in a control circuit of a fuel injection valve 12 of a cylinder 5 and a knock senser 35 is provided near the cylinder 5. At the high load operation requiring the amount of the fuel to be increased, a valve opening characteristic of the fuel injection valve 12 is changed by the resistor 27 as compared with other characteristics, the cylinder 5 is supplied with the mixed gas of the air fuel ratio closer to the theoretical air fuel ratio as compared with other cylinders, and the same is put in a state in which the knocks tend to occur as compared with other cylinders. Accordingly, the occurrences of the knocks in the cylinder 5 are detected by the knock senser 35, thereby enabling the knocks to be checked against the occurrence.
