Abstract

PURPOSE: In a cylinder number controlled engine which stops operation of a few cylinders under a low load, to prevent the ceased cylinders from being worn during a run-in by providing a means of forcedly operating all cylinders during said running.
CONSTITUTION: When an engine is applied with a light load, a cylinder number control circuit 2 closes a cut-off valve 6 of a ceased intake path 5 to stop operation of cylinders #4W#6 and in addition, opens an exhaust recirculation valve 10 to circulate an exhaust gas through the ceased intake path 5. An odometer 33 is involved in the control circuit 2 to detect a certain driving distance so that during a run-in, the control circuit 2 is by-passed and the odometer 33 is directly connected to a fuel injection control circuit 1, by which a fuel is injected in the entire cylinders.
