Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide sure control of ignition timing, by producing knocking in a cylinder a bit earlier than in other cylinders and checking the knocking conditions to control ignition timing of the whole cylinders. CONSTITUTION:A square portion of cam for a distributor 38 corresponding to a cylinder among others is advanced by a small angle alpha in the direction of cam's rotation. A vibration sensor 31 is attached to the cylinder head to detect vibration and convert it into electric signals which are transferred to an operational circuit 35 through a band-pass filter 32, mean value circuit 33, peak detector 34, etc. The operational circuit 35 uses, for example, a set-priority flip-flop 36 which is set with an ignition signal for the specific cylinder and reset with an ignition signal for the whole cylinders, and discriminates the degree of knocking by means of a comparator 37 only when explosion takes place in the specific cylinder and then controls the ignition angle of the distributor 38.
