Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the intake noise produced at the time of decelerating an engine and to enable to actuate the exhaust brake effectively, by providing a means for decreasing the restriction of an intake shutter at the time of decelerating the engine in an intake system having an intake shutter in its intake passage.
CONSTITUTION: At the time of idling operation of an engine when the engine is warmed up sufficiently, a solenoid valve 17 and an on-off valve 19 are closed and an accelerator switch 24 is kept ON. Therefore, a three-way solenoid valve 10 is opened, so that a negative pressure or partial vacuum is transmitted from a vacuum tank 13 into a vacuum chamber 8a of a power chamber 8. Resultantly, an intake shutter 4 is turned to its closed position by a diaphragm 8b and a linkage 6. On the other hand, when the exhaust brake is actuated during operation of the engine, a three-way solenoid valve 11 is opened since a clutch switch 26 and a neutral switch 27 are both kept ON, so that an exhaust-brake valve 5 is closed by a power chamber 9. Simultaneously therewith, athe solenoid valve 17 is also opened, so that restriction to the air flow by the intake shutter 4 can be decreased.
