Abstract
PURPOSE:To rapidly deposit a glass soot block in a high yield by atomizing raw material for a glass compsn. with a hydrogen-contg. gas; mixing an oxidizing gas into the atomized material; burning the mixt.; and spraying the resulting flame upon a target. CONSTITUTION:A hydrogen-contg. gas is fed into glass tube 3 to such up liquid raw material 1 for a glass compsn. in container 2 into glass tube 5, and liquid 1 from nozzle 5' is atomized with the gas from nozzle 3'. Atomized liquid 11 is mixed with an oxidizing gas fed into pipe 7 in nozzle 10'. This mixed gas is ignited and burned to form flame 11' contg. glass fine particles. By spraying flame 11' upon target 12 moving in the arrow 14 direction while rotating, glass soot block 15 is deposited on target 12. This method is suitable for use in production of a glass base material for an optical fiber, etc.
