Abstract
PURPOSE:To make it possible to synthesize a base material at a high speed and stably without bringing the tip of a burner nozzle close to the deposition surface of the base material, by means of a combustion tube provided at the tip of the burner body used in the VAD method. CONSTITUTION:A burner body 1 constituted of a nozzle 2 for supplying a raw material for forming glass at the center, a nozzle 3 for supplying a combustible gas and a nozzle 4 for supplying a combustion improving gas in the order in the form of a multiple pipe. The nozzle 4 is equipped with a nozzle 5 for the axial flow of the combustion improving gas and a nozzle 6 for the turning flow of the combustion improving gas. The tip of the burner body 1 is engaged with a combustion tube 7, and the raw material for forming glass, the combustible gas, e.g. H2, and the combustion improving gas, e.g. O2, are supplied to the respective nozzles 2, 3 and 4 to burn the combustible gas, hydrolyze the raw material for the glass by the flame and form fine glass particles 8. In the process, the combustion tube 7 provided at the tip of the burner body 1 causes no fluctuation of the flame, etc., and the formed fine particles 8 pass through almost te center of the tube 7 and jetted to the desired position accurately.
