Abstract

PURPOSE: To realize excellent welding, by comparing the propagation time of ultrasonic wave passing through the joining part with that before heating and melting of the joining part, and stopping the welding current when the time difference thereof exceeds a specified value.
CONSTITUTION: Works 1a, 1b are pressure-welded by means of electrodes 3a, 3b, and a pulse signal is generated from a gate pulse generator 6. An ultrasonic wave from an ultrasonic oscillator 2a passes through the joining part of the works 1a, 1b, and is detected, and the detected signal is fed in a gate circuit 11. Only the pulse components in the ultrasonic signal are inputted into a time difference measuring circuit 13. At this time, there is not time difference in the outputs of the gate circuit 11 and delay circuit 14, so that the output of the time difference measuring circuit 13 is zero. Then, when a signal is applied to a welding current control circuit 4, the works 1a, 1b are energized, heated and melted, thus producing a nugget 16. As the diameter of this nugget 16 becomes larger, the time difference in the output signals of the gate circuit 11 and delay circuit 14 becomes wider, and the output level of the time difference measuring circuit 13 also increases. When this output level reaches a specified value, a power supply stop signal is applied to the welding current control circuit 4 from a comparator circuit 15, so that power supply is stopped.
